The Polish manufacturer of aluminum profile systems, Aluprof, has developed sliding balcony doors that can withstand hurricanes. This system is designed for markets where large glazing needs to resist the strong pressure of hurricane winds, primarily targeting the U.S. market.
The MB-37 Slide Storm profile has been certified according to the standards of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the Florida Building Code standards (TAS 201-94; TAS 202-94, and TAS 203). Tests conducted by the independent accredited laboratory Molimo confirmed that this system can be used in regions with a high or very high risk of hurricanes, including Zone 4, where wind speeds exceed 274 km/h (170 mph).
Test results showed that the MB-37 Slide Storm structure remains sealed even when the profiles and glazing are damaged by debris carried by the wind. However, to ensure maximum safety, the use of special glass is recommended: two tempered TVG glasses, each 6 mm thick, with a PVB film of 2.28 mm or SentryGlas Plus film of 3 x 0.76 mm, providing high impact resistance. The system successfully passed tests for 4,500 cycles of variable pressure.
Due to the nature of hurricanes, which form over warm water in tropical regions, the MB-37 Slide Storm is a cold system without a thermal break.
The system is characterized by a sash depth of 37 mm and a frame depth of 100 mm, with the possibility of creating structures with maximum dimensions of 3,200 mm in width and 3,000 mm in height. The weight of the sashes can reach up to 160 kg, and the glazing width ranges from 14 to 19 mm.
Aluprof positions the MB-37 Slide Storm as an economical solution with high resistance to extreme weather conditions, and it is easy to use.
