NSG Group has announced the launch of Pilkington Mirai Øne™, a new architectural float glass for buildings. The company disclosed the launch in an official statement.
The new glass generates 35% lower carbon emissions during production compared with NSG Group’s standard float glass. The manufacturer developed the product for projects where reducing the environmental impact of construction materials is a priority.
Pilkington Mirai Øne™ forms part of NSG Group’s broader sustainability programme. The company is investing in trials of alternative fuels, carbon capture technology to reduce furnace emissions, and glass recycling initiatives under its makechange™ platform.
The manufacturer has increased the proportion of recycled raw materials in the glass composition and implemented additional measures to reduce its carbon footprint. These steps have lowered emissions without affecting the quality of the glass. After coating, laminating or other processing, the glass retains the same appearance, quality and performance characteristics as the company’s standard float glass.
NSG Group is preparing an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for the new glass. The declaration will be verified by an independent third party.
Pilkington Mirai Øne™ expands the Pilkington Mirai™ range launched by NSG Group in 2023. At the time of its launch, the first product in the range had the lowest carbon footprint among architectural glass products on the market, with emissions 52% lower than standard glass. Pilkington Mirai™ is intended for projects with demanding carbon reduction targets, while Pilkington Mirai Øne™ offers a more moderate reduction in emissions and broader availability for a wider range of projects.
The glass is available in standard sheet sizes with thicknesses of 4, 6 and 8 mm. For other thicknesses, including laminated glass and coated products, the manufacturer advises customers to contact a sales representative.
Both products in the Pilkington Mirai™ range help architects, designers and contractors glass with a lower carbon footprint. The products meet the criteria for LEED and BREEAM building certification schemes. They also support compliance with the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), which strengthens requirements for transparent reporting of the carbon footprint of construction materials.
Pilkington Mirai Øne™ is already available across European markets. In Ukraine, NovaSklo Trade has obtained the rights to supply and promote the full range of Pilkington architectural glass.
