NSG Group has launched a carbon capture system at its flat glass production plant. The plant is located in the UK. The trial is part of the project "XLR8 CCS - accelerating the deployment of a low-cost carbon capture solution for hard-to-reduce industries.
One of C-Capture's Carbon Capture Solvent Compatibility Testing Units (CCSCU) has been deployed at Pilkington UK's float furnace. UK-based C-Capture has patented a solvent-based technology that offers a safe and inexpensive way to capture carbon dioxide from post-combustion emissions.
The CCSCU is connected to the base of the UK5 furnace chimney and separates CO2 from the flue gas. The trials will last several months to assess the compatibility of the patented C-Capture technology with real flue gases from an industrial glass furnace. The partners have provided a feasibility study for the use of C-Capture technology at a 100 tonnes per day plant.
A further five carbon capture trials will be carried out across the UK for other companies.
The success of the project will enable C-Capture and its project partners to deploy commercial carbon capture plants in a variety of industries, including glass and cement, by 2030.
