The 52nd professional conference by ift Rosenheim for the window and façade industry brought together representatives of the European window sector in Rosenheim on 8–9 October and showed that the market is entering a period of deep transformation. According to the German institute ift Rosenheim, the key trends are linked to climate change, new EU regulations and the transition to a circular economy.
ift Rosenheim announced a profound transformation of the window industry
The institute’s director, Professor Winfried Heusler, emphasised in his presentation that the changes will affect all market participants. He underlined that the environmental requirements of the Green Deal are gradually shaping new operating conditions for window and façade manufacturers. According to him, these conditions will become decisive for companies planning to work in the European market in the coming years.
One of the main topics was the transition to a circular economy and the 9R model. It covers nine levels — from avoiding unnecessary materials to recycling and energy recovery. European regulation encourages companies to create designs with longer life cycles that can be repaired, upgraded and reused. In contrast, approaches based on single-use solutions will gradually lose support.
Among other topics, participants highlighted the development of serial and modular construction. According to experts, such approaches help increase productivity and stability, and also simplify the digital support of products. Standardisation, automation and systematic use of digital data are becoming key tools for companies wishing to remain competitive.
Specialists also stressed the growing demand for climate-resilient building products. Climate change requires windows and façades to be more resistant to heat, precipitation and fluctuating weather conditions. This affects the requirements for thermal insulation, strength and durability of structures.

In conclusion, the conference showed that the European window market is moving towards a new operating model. Manufacturers and suppliers able to quickly adapt their products and processes to environmental and digital requirements will gain an advantage. Those who postpone changes risk losing their positions in the near future.
