After the full-scale invasion by russia, the window company Vikna-Star and the hardware brand Winkhaus analysed the damage to windows and doors after the shelling. They were interested in how windows could be improved to be safe during explosions.
Over the past 9 months, Vіkna-Star, TM has been working on this project together with its partners WINKHAUS, Reynaers Aluminium Ukraine, and Glas Tresh (Euroglas).
According to Vikna-Star, 3 stages of testing were carried out and 7 different types of windows were tested.
One of the test results was the certification of the aluminium window according to the EXR2 (NS) resistance class by DSTU EN 13123-2:2006.
The structure is made of Reynaers SUNRISE aluminium profile.
Winkhaus activPilot burglar-proof fittings are installed.
A properly selected Glas Trösch double-glazed unit with impact-resistant P4A glass. According to DSTU EN 356:2005, the highest resistance category is P5A.
The explosion-resistant characteristics are confirmed by the protocols of the National Defence University of Ukraine and the Scientific and Engineering Centre for Testing of Security Products and Materials. The presentation was held during the construction and architecture BUSINESS FORUM "Reconstruction of Ukraine", which took place on 5-6 October 2023 in Kyiv. The next presentation of the test results will take place online on 20 October 2023 at the WKC Installer 5.0 conference.
For reference.
The EXR1 resistance class is about protection against a 3 kg explosive charge at a distance of 5 m, while EXR2 is about protection against a 3 kg explosive charge at a distance of 3 m.
The NS mark shows the absence of fragments from the back side of the glass or other filler.
