The Ministry of Economy is initiating the reform of the Vocational Education and Training Centres (VET) of the State Employment Service (SES) to prepare specialists needed by entrepreneurs.
Surveys of enterprises highlight the urgency of addressing staffing issues, such as the lack of qualified workers or the mismatch between individuals' education and experience and the requirements of employers.
The project "Reforming the System of Support and Development of Labour Potential" will last for 8 months. The organizers plan to, among other things, improve cooperation between employers and VET centres.
According to the Ministry of Economy, employers who need currently scarce specialists can request their training at the VET centres of the SES, where training is provided for 96 working professions.
"By collaborating with businesses, we use an individual approach and choose the form of training, as well as adapt training programs to each employer's request. Registered unemployed individuals, as well as defenders and people with disabilities due to war, can receive free training funded by the Unemployment Fund. We can also provide training funded by the employer, i.e., upon the employer's request. We offer blended, individual, and dual forms of training. Since the beginning of this year, 5,000 employers have requested training for the unemployed in specific areas at the Vocational Education and Training Centres," commented the director of the State Employment Service of Ukraine, Yuliia Zhovtiak.
Previously, the Association of "Ukrainian Manufacturers of Transparent Structures" agreed to cooperate in developing the VET system within the framework of the project "Public-Private Partnership for Improving Vocational Education in Ukraine."
The reform project is being implemented by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine in partnership with the NGO "Development of the Business Sector of Ukraine" with the support of the USAID project "Strengthening Public Trust (UCBI)."
