VELUX Signs 10-Year Agreement with ArcelorMittal for Supply of Recycled and Renewable Steel

VELUX, a well-known manufacturer of roof windows, has entered into a 10-year agreement with ArcelorMittal for the supply of steel made from recycled materials and using renewable energy. This is a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions associated with steel production for VELUX roof windows.

As early as 2023, the companies began collaborating to reduce the carbon footprint of steel by 70% compared to traditional steel. They tested a new ArcelorMittal product called XCarb®—steel produced using 75% recycled raw materials and 100% renewable electricity.

Now, following successful test results, VELUX is gradually implementing this steel into its products. By 2025, XCarb® will replace traditional steel in many components of VELUX roof windows.

Interestingly, metals, excluding aluminum, account for 5.7% of VELUX's total indirect emissions. Therefore, reducing emissions in this area is an important step toward achieving VELUX's goal of reducing its emissions by 50% by 2030.
