Eco-housing for foster children finds its first location in Ukraine

The Danish project Children’s Living Places, aimed at creating eco-housing for foster families, has secured its first key location in Ukraine. The first complex will be built in Lviv, according to SOS Children's Villages Ukraine.

Launched a year ago, the project is being developed in partnership with the international organization SOS Børnebyerne and local partners. Its goal is to provide safe and comfortable housing for children who have lost parental care, following a family-style foster home model.

The initiative plans to build three residential clusters with social centers in different regions of Ukraine. In Lviv, the city authorities have actively supported the project, signing a memorandum at the end of 2024. The agreement includes leasing a plot of land in April 2025, with construction scheduled to start in the summer.

The project is based on the Living Places concept, developed by VELUX in collaboration with the architectural firm EFFEKT and engineering company Artelia. The houses will be energy-efficient and, in addition to residential spaces, the complexes will feature communal areas for leisure and social support.

The project is funded and supported by Villum Fonden, Viessmann Foundation, Grundfos Foundation, Bitten & Mads Clausens Foundation, SOMFY FOUNDATION, DOVISTA, Flügger group A/S, EIFO, Kromann Reumert, and VELUX Ukraine, which will supply roof windows.
