The Guardian Glass Bascharage plant in Luxembourg is planning to commission the most energy-efficient furnace ever built. This was reported in the company's press centre. The launch is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023 after the cold tank is repaired.
The company estimates that after commissioning, the furnace will become 25% more energy efficient. It will also free up additional capacity for the production of Guardian ExtraClear™ and Guardian UltraClear™ low-iron float glass.
The plant already produces Guardian ClimaGuard™ low-E glass and Guardian SunGuard™, a high-performance coating for sunscreen glass.
Guus Boekhoudt, executive vice president of Guardian Glass, comments: "Consolidating all these assets on one site in Luxembourg, close to many of our key customers, will enhance our service offering and underline our long-term commitment to them and the glass industry."
Improvements in production processes will also help compensate for the company's exit from the Russian market.
The plant also plans to complete the installation of a laminated glass line by the end of 2023.
