Building materials with recycled materials will have an advantage during reconstruction

TeamWIN Windows & Glas day 2023
Ukrainian producers who can offer products made from recycled materials will have a significant advantage during the reconstruction process. This opinion was expressed by Kostiantyn Salii, President of the Public Union Ukrainian Union of Manufacturers of Building Materials Manufacturers, during the TeamWIN Window and Glass Days in Ukraine 2023 business conference.

The European Commission aims to make the European continent climate neutral by 2050. The relevant policy initiatives are called The European Green Deal. Therefore, EU donors will pay attention to products with recycled materials. And according to Mr Konstantin, manufacturers of construction products made from recycled materials will have a significant advantage.

Currently, Ukrainian construction materials producers are in no hurry to manufacture products from recycled materials, as such products are more expensive than those made from virgin raw materials. And the lack of additional incentives puts the cost at the forefront. But if the international fund for recovery projects prescribes the mandatory use of 30-40% recycling, recycled manufacturers will have a significant advantage. But we need to prepare for this now.
For example, Miroplast, a Ukrainian manufacturer of PVC profiles, has upgraded its equipment to allow for coextrusion.

In general, it is necessary to prevent Ukraine from becoming a dumping ground for substandard materials and to organise separate collection of demolition waste.
According to Pavlo Kozyriev, chairman of the Association of Small Cities of Ukraine, the amount of waste generated by the destruction has already reached 100 million tonnes. It is necessary to decide whether these materials will be disposed of or used to create new materials.
