Aluprof expands its range of low-carbon systems

Aluprof is extending its selection of profiles with low CO₂ emissions. The company has introduced new ultra-low-carbon options made from aluminium containing 85% recycled materials. The emissions from such material are just 1.24 t eCO₂ per tonne — meaning that producing one tonne of this aluminium results in 1.24 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. This is twelve times less than emissions from primary aluminium, according to Aluprof’s press office.

The company also offers low-carbon options made from scrap. These profiles have emissions of 2.9–3.3 t eCO₂ per tonne. All these systems are used in windows, doors, façades and sun protection structures.

Aluprof, part of Grupa Kęty, has confirmed the performance of its new systems through life cycle assessment in line with EN 15804. The products have received ECO-EPD certification, recognised by international green building rating systems such as BREEAM, LEED and DGNB. Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) have also been granted to the company’s external roller shutters, screens and blinds.

Demand for aluminium is on the rise. According to the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), global consumption of the metal is expected to grow by 40% by 2030. As a result, production based on recycled raw materials is becoming critically important.

“We are reducing our carbon footprint by increasing the share of secondary materials in production,” says Aleksandra Baksik, brand and sustainability development manager at Aluprof.

The company is also investing in its own solar power plants, which are scheduled for completion in the first half of 2025.

Elsewhere on the market, Schüco and TSR Group are working together to retain recycled aluminium within the construction industry.
